Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (Godwin) ( 30 August 1797 ~ 1 February 1851) is an English novelist whose work is considered an early example of horror, apocalyptic, dystopian, true science fiction stories.
Her novel Frankenstein;or, the Modern Prometheus , infused with elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement, is widely read and has inspired many theatrical and film adaptations.

In the Western classical tradition, Prometheus is a figure who represented human striving (particularly the quest for scientific knowledge) and the risk of overreaching or unintended consequences.
